Welcome to Coxes Creek Charters!
Fly Fishing the waters of Southwestern Pennsylvania has never been easier. Our charters are run by U.S.C.G. Licensed Captain James Hemminger. Born and raised in Somerset County, he has spent decades fishing the waters of the Laurel Highlands. Capt. Hemminger is highly knowledgeable about local trout streams, and other unique fisheries.
In addition to spending time guiding in the Laurel Highlands, Capt. Hemminger spends his summers guiding trout and salmon trips in Alaska. He has spent time guiding on the Wild and Scenic Alagnak River and working as a fly-out guide on the Naknek River.
No matter the trip Capt. Hemminger will ensure you have a memorable experience. We currently offer Full Day, Half Day, and Evening Trips, in addition to Casting, and Fly-Tying Lessons. I am pleased to announce that I will be spending the 2024 Season guiding at Rapids Camp Lodge on the Naknek River in King Salmon Alaska.
Rapids Camp Lodge offers unparalleled fly fishing in the heart of the famed Bristol Bay watershed, home to enormous rainbow trout, five species of salmon, Arctic char, pike, and grayling.
And if you’re looking for more than a great fishing trip, we also offer glacier and volcano flight-seeing, bear and wildlife viewing, clam digging and eco-tourism activities.
More than a guide service
Capt. Hemminger has been selected to be a Save Bristol Bay Guide Ambassador for 2024. He will work alongside a group of fellow fishing, hunting and bear viewing guides in the Bristol Bay region who are committed to advocating for the place they work, live and play.
An educator by trade Mr. Hemminger leads an Extracurricular Fly Fishing Club at Somerset High School. Students have the opportunity to learn how to tie flies, build their own fly rods, and fish with friends. Donations of fly-tying material are always welcome.
